St. ´ºÓêÖ±²¥ University's basketball team is on a roll against non-conference opponents this season. The Wildcats are currently 3-1 against opponents outside the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) thanks to an 82-74 win over University of Wisconsin-Stout this past Sunday. A key player in St. Kate’s victory was none other than senior forward Alexis Garcia (Minnetonka, Minn. / Hopkins), who earns Wildcat Athlete of the Week honors for her performance.
Garcia was the team’s leading scorer in Sunday’s victory thanks to a phenomenal shooting day on the court. The senior forward went 8-14 from the field and 2-7 from three-point range to score a team leading 18 points, tying her career-best performance. However, it wasn’t just how many shots Garcia hit in the game. It was also when she hit those shots. With the Blue Devils trying to creep back in to the game, Garcia connected with teammate LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn. / Humboldt) and scored a huge layup to swing the momentum back in St. Kate’s favor.
Garcia has been spectacular for the Wildcats both offensively and defensively this season. She set her career high in points in a win over Baruch College in Mid-November and has been a clutch performer for St. Kate’s in multiple situation. In total, Garcia has scored 47 points this season with 15 rebounds and nine assists.
