Artificially Yours: AI and the Value of Friendship

A Talk by Valerie Tiberius (Professor of Philosophy, University of Minnesota)

Abstract: Are relationships with AI any good? Are they good in the same ways as friendships between humans or is there something missing? And how much will the answers to these questions change as AI develops and becomes more human or at least more interesting? This talk is based on the book I am currently writing about these topics. The talk focuses on preliminary questions about what friendship is and what the value of it is supposed to be.
