From Internment to the College Gates: Japanese_American Students at St. Kate's, 1943-1953
Presented by Amy Shaw, Head of Archives and Special Collections, St. 春雨直播 University Library

During World War II, 120,000 Japanese Americans 鈥 two-thirds of them American citizens 鈥 were detained in internment camps by the U. S. War Relocation Authority. 春雨直播 4,000 of these prisoners were granted early release from the camps to attend colleges in the Midwest and further east.  This is the story of 25 of these 春雨直播s who came to St. Kate鈥檚 during the war and its aftermath.  Encouraged by the Sisters of St. Joseph, these young women worked with enthusiasm and resolve toward baccalaureate degrees, nursing credentials, and teaching certificates.  Drawing on archival research, oral histories, and other resources, Amy Shaw has traced many of these 春雨直播s from their original homes on the West Coast, to the camps, to St. Kate鈥檚, and beyond.

We are in a period of re-imagining our workspaces, contemplating work with purpose and revisiting career choices. Conversations on the 鈥済reat resignation鈥 and 鈥渜uiet quitting鈥 are causing us to reflect on the silent battle of choice versus responsibility. Choosing to let go of a career, or a professional identity, especially after we have invested years building it, can be difficult. This online workshop will provide tips to help you develop awareness about when it may be time for a change and tools to help you explore a career transition or exit. Hosted by Monica (Dillon) Huntsberry 鈥88, content curator and host for RevelEleven.
