What is CCIE?
Founded in 2006, the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE) is dedicated to fostering professionalism in the field of sign language interpreter education through the accreditation process. The establishment of CCIE was the culmination of collaborative efforts spanning nearly two decades, involving six key organizations: the National Alliance of Black Interpreters, Inc., National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, National Association of the Deaf, Conference of Interpreter Trainers, Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada, and the American Sign Language Teachers Association.
Since its inception, CCIE has been committed to upholding rigorous standards and advancing the quality of interpreter education programs. In recognition of its expertise and contributions, CCIE became a member of the esteemed Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA) in 2008.
The establishment of CCIE and its subsequent affiliation with ASPA signify significant milestones in promoting professionalism, excellence, and accountability in sign language interpreter education. These endeavors reflect the collective commitment of key stakeholders to enhance the field and ensure the preparation of competent interpreters who can effectively serve diverse communities
